5.2 magnitude earthquake in Bangladesh

News Asia24 Desk: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake has occurred in Bangladesh, European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said.

The earthquake was felt at 6:46 pm today, Monday (October 2).

According to the United States Geological Survey, USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Goalpara, Assam. Its magnitude was 5.4 on the Richter scale. Its depth was only 10 kilometers from the surface.

Hafizur Rahman, meteorologist of Meteorological Department, told News Asia24 that the earthquake originated from Assam, India. It is 236 km north of Agargaon in Dhaka. Its scale was 5.2.

Dhaka, Rajshahi, Jamalpur, Lalmonirhat, Moulvibazar, Sirajganj, Chittagong, Sherpur, Savar, Gazipur, Panchagarh, Cox’s Bazar, Lalmonirhat, Habiganj, Natore, Kurigram, Chapainawabganj, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Joypurhat, Naogaon, Bogra, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Gaibandha, Rajshahi, Jamalpur, Lalmonirhat, Moulvibazar, Sirajganj, Chittagong, Sherpur, Savar, Gazipur, Panchagarh, Cox’s Bazar, Lalmonirhat, Habiganj, Natore and Kurigram.

Before this, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 was felt in Tangail on September 17 in Bangladesh. Its origin was at Tangail Sadar, 59 km from Dhaka. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km below the surface.
